How to Celebrate National Trails Day in Trailahassee
The American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day is Saturday, June 4th. National Trails Day is an annual event celebrating hiking, biking, paddling, equestrian, and birding trails throughout the country. Here in “Trailahassee,” we are fortunate to have dozens of incredible trails within the city limits! Find your trail at Trailahassee.com, grab your friends, and head out for a celebratory hike this Saturday! Here is our day-hike recommended supply list for Florida:
- Water (!!!!) – 2 pints every hour minimum
- Bug Spray
- Bandanna and/or hat
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Lightweight, light-colored clothing
- Snacks (high protein, high calorie)
- Map of area & compass (stay on trails!) – GPS
- Cell phone (take photo of trail map)
- Emergency contact phone list
- Medications & first aid kit
In addition to our trail systems within the Tallahassee city limits, located just a short drive from the city center is the Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST or Florida Trail, for short). This Saturday, June 4th from 8:30am -12:30pm, the Apalachee Chapter of the Florida Trail will be hosting their National Trails Day Event. Find out all the details online here.
The Florida Trail is Florida’s only long-distance trail, covering over 1,300 miles of volunteer-maintained hiking trails. Each section of the Florida Trail is maintained by individual volunteer chapters, the Tallahassee chapter is the Apalachee Chapter of the Florida National Scenic Trail.
