Hike Your Own Hike!
Our motto at Camp Folks is “Hike your own hike!” It’s a phrase commonly used by hikers to express that everyone has a different way of doing things, especially hiking. Effective at ending petty disputes over gear selection, hiking style, and other personal choices, Camp Folks has adopted the phrase to let our guests know that they are free to experience nature on their own terms. With this in mind, Camp Folks has organized an Econfina Hike n’ Camp on the Florida National Scenic Trail with multiple options to truly allow our guests to “hike their own hike.”
The first option is the Unsupported option, otherwise known as backpacking. This means that the hiker carries in their own gear and food into the campsite and sets it up for themselves. There are many benefits to backpacking, including always having all your gear in case of emergency and a sense of accomplishment in carrying everything you need for survival on your back.
The other option offered is a Supported option, otherwise known as “slack-packing.” Hikers who choose this option leave their gear with Camp Folks and hike with only the necessities for their hike (water, snacks, bug spray, sunblock, etc.). When they arrive to camp, Camp Folks has their gear set up for them! Many hikers will choose this option because it allows them to carry less weight, reliving some of the physical strains of backpacking, and allows them to hike faster and more comfortably.
Supported or unsupported, which would you choose?
